About Guy Cranston
Guy Cranston

Guy Cranston was born in Cambridge, Ontario, but grew up in Baie d’Urfé, a lively suburb on Montreal’s West Island. Creativity runs in the family, his mother was an oil painter who painted with Kathleen Morris, a contemporary of the Group of Seven. His brother Toller was not only a well known artist, but also a legendary Olympic figure skater who took the sport to new heights.
Guy’s artistic schooling was a very much a hands-on thing. His early skills, especially in woodworking, came from time spent with his father at his workbench. Over the years, Guy has taken workshops with eminent artists in both the 2D and 3D arts to develop a style that’s all his own.
To create his one of a kind sculptures, Guy cuts wooden blocks into bird shapes, refines them with grinders and sandpaper, paints and covers them with small, brightly coloured wire “feathers.” Each bird is completely unique, even within the same species, exploring the endless variety of colours and forms that nature offers.
Guy has shown his work in galleries across Canada.
Guy’s attitude towards his work is straightforward, his favourite piece is always whatever he’s creating at the current moment. He enjoys the creative process, and sharing his birds with others.
