Week 34 - Workshops

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.

Have you ever wondered if there's a finish line when it comes to learning how to paint? Well, let me tell you, my friend, there isn't! It's a continuous growth pattern, an ever-expanding universe of artistic possibilities. And let me assure you, experimenting and style shifts are not only common but also necessary to become the best artist you can be.

Considering taking an art workshop?

Are you tired of staring at a blank canvas, unsure of where to start? Or maybe you're an experienced artist looking to take your skills to the next level? Workshops are the perfect solution! They offer a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge, learn new techniques, and connect with fellow artists.

Benefits of attending workshops

Workshops provide a supportive and inspiring environment where you can freely express your creativity.

One of the biggest advantages of taking a workshop is the chance to learn from artists with years of experience, being able to pick their brains and get personalised feedback on your work.

1. Skill Enhancement: Art workshops allow you to learn from experts in the field, who can provide valuable insights and guidance to improve your artistic abilities.

2. Exposure to New Techniques: Workshops often focus on specific techniques or mediums, giving you the chance to explore and experiment with new artistic styles.

3. Networking Opportunities: Art workshops bring together artists from various backgrounds and skill levels. This provides a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, share ideas, and build a supportive artistic community.

4. Inspiration and Motivation: Immersing yourself in a creative environment can be highly inspiring and motivating. Art workshops can reignite your passion for art and help you overcome creative blocks.

Enrol in my upcoming workshop

I'm happy to announce, I'm teaching an acrylic workshop this fall at the Lunenburg School of the Arts.

Harmony, Colour and Light: Expressive Acrylic Painting

Learn to paint expressive, impressionistic acrylic paintings that capture the colour, light and essence of a scene. Stretch your creativity, get out of your comfort zone to push past what you see to what you’d like to express.

Make value and negative pattern work for you to produce paintings that have strength and depth. Show the Artist’s hand with bold brush strokes, and “unexpected” colour to set the mood. Create movement, tell a story, with strong composition and design.

Tuesdays, October 10 – November 7, 2023
1:00pm – 4:00pm

These workshops fill quickly. For more info go to Lunenburg School of the Arts website.

Why Keep Learning?

Some may think that after 30 years of experience, I would have learned it all. But guess what? I still believe in taking workshops, and I'm not alone in this. There is always something new to learn, a fresh perspective to gain, and exciting techniques to explore. That's why, I'm thrilled to be taking a workshop with the incredible artist and teacher, John Lovette in beautiful Portugal next September.

John Lovette: A Master of Mixed Media

Painting by John Lovett, Australian multi media Artist

If you haven't heard of John Lovette, you're in for a treat. He's not just an amazing artist but also a fantastic teacher. I've had the pleasure of previously attending one of his workshops in Italy, and let me tell you, they are mind-blowing. John has a unique style of teaching, and his critiques are second to none.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, John's workshop is a golden opportunity to expand your skills and unleash your creativity. His passion for art is contagious, and his guidance will undoubtedly take your paintings to new levels.

So, if you're as enthusiastic about art as I am, check out John's workshop, and join me, Guy, and fellow artists in Portugal next fall for an unforgettable experience.

For more information about John Lovette's workshop in Portugal, and how to participate, visit Painting Workshops website.

Travelrite, who conducts, and hosts the painting workshops, is the best company I've ever travelled with. They look after everything, so all I have to do is have fun, and paint!
