Week 33 - Less is More

I'm finding out this year, less is more, especially when it comes to my art. I'm paring down my palette to a limited choice of colours, I'm leaving more and more detail out, and concentrating on value and colour harmonies.

Bigger brushes, less brush strokes, more "Hand of the Artist".

This in turn makes the process a lot more fun, experimental, and rewarding for me. And apparently it has really resonated with my patrons.

Having our own gallery is wonderful in so many ways, but one of the best ways is being free to experiment. In our gallery, I'm not constrained by specific show themes, or keeping my work within a given style. Basically, I paint it, hang it up, and get instant feedback from the people visiting our space. Magic.

Owning and running your own gallery may not be for everyone, buy for me, it's a perfect fit.

If you're interested in learning more about my process, and giving it a try, I have a workshop coming up in October at the Lunenburg School of the Arts. It's not officially posted yet, but it's going to be running Tuesday afternoons 1pm - 4 pm, Oct. 10th to Nov. 7th. Get in touch with the school if you would like to attend, these workshops sell out fast!

 Plein Air Painting

For any artist living in or visiting the Lunenburg area, I run a weekly plein air group that meets every Tuesday morning from the beginning of June through to Thanksgiving, anyone is welcome to join us.
Check out our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/LunenburgCountyPleinAir/
